Description
So, what does this abstract painting mean? That’s the great thing about art, as it can mean many things to different people. This was my final painting in an art class that I took at a university when I was 59 years old. I had to go back to school to renew my teaching license. I was the oldest student in the class. The other students lived on campus and could easily carry large paintings to class. I had to commute and carry things on a bus, so this was not easy for me to carry large paintings back and forth, especially when I had to walk a long distance. I waited till the last assignment to paint anything large. Wouldn't you know it? It SNOWED the day I brought this to class and it was really windy. It was like trying to maneuver a sail boat across campus. The other students had been painting nudes and modern art for their assignments while I was painting my grand children. For me, I was just trying to show those young students that this old student could paint something large and modern if I wanted to. I guess that isn’t a very good reason, is it? Okay, here’s the real reason…I love bright colors and the graceful beauty of curved lines and shapes. I also love bright, sparkly jewels, and glittery things. I had dumpster dived when I was first married and had a ton of jewelry pieces that a crafter had thrown out. I glued some of those beads and broken jewelry onto the curved areas of the painting to accentuate the curved lines. Although it was my final work to be graded to get my teaching license, it was also a study in bright colors, curved lines, and something to make people smile. It was my bright happy gift of art wrapped up in pretty "Baubles N Bows" for the next generation.
“A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.”
