This painting is in honor of all the parents who have lost young children. It started as I was working on a painting during worship service at my church of a baby wrapped in heart shaped angel wings. A very dear mother of several adopted children stopped by to look at it. With tears in her eyes, she wondered if I could change it into a baby with downs syndrome to honor her son who had passed away. He was born with downs syndrome and also suffered 14 years from leukemia and a congenital heart defect. He was very brave and brought much joy to his family and they wanted to honor his precious life and memory.
Parents who care for children with special needs are heroes in my book, facing life challenges that I can not fully imagine. All human beings are precious and sacred, for we are all created in the image of God. As we witness some of the sufferings of innocent ones, perhaps we can get a glimpse into the sacredness of all life and begin to seek our Creator for help. It was Jesus who said, "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14. He understood more than anyone what it means to suffer.
Psalm 139: 13...thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
